National Seminar, March 2026

The Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies, in collaboration with KCG (Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat), CHE (Centre for Higher Education), and RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan), organized a National Seminar on "Three Seminal Indian English Poets." The focus was on a reappraisal of Nissim Ezekiel, Jayant Mahapatra, and Keki Daruwalla. The Department had invited one plenary speaker for each of these three poets. The plenary talk on Daruwalla was delivered by Dr. Nawal Kishor Sharma of KSKV Kachchh University on March 20, 2026. The plenary talk on Ezekiel was delivered by Dr. Sridhar Rajeswaran, a former professor, head, and dean of KSKV Kachchh University, as well as a DAAD scholar to the Universities of Münster and Magdeburg, on March 21, 2026. The plenary talk on Jayant Mahapatra was delivered by Dr. Kalidas Misra, a former professor and head at Sambalpur University, Odisha, on March 22, 2026. Additionally, a documentary on Jayant Mahapatra, directed by Mr. Bishweshwar Das, was screened in the presence of the director, followed by a discussion on March 21, 2026. The paper presenters at this seminar consisted of many young faculty members and research scholars. The current batch of M.A. students from the department benefited from attending this seminar. Overall, the event was a grand academic success.
