The department of history was established in 1969. At present there are 2 full-time faculties imparting guidance to post-graduate students, studying in M.A. (4 Semesters, with an intake capacity of 40) and doctoral (Ph.D.) programmes in History under the guidance of highly qualified and experienced faculty members. It aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Indian as well as World History through quality teaching, research, and critical historical analysis. The department is equipped with valuable academic resources including a well-maintained library and a museum that support students and researchers in their academic pursuits. To enhance intellectual growth, expert lectures, seminars, workshops, and academic discussions are organized regularly with participation from distinguished scholars and subject experts.
The focus of the department is on teaching Regional History, Indian History, World history and Tourism. The Department also imparts guidance to those teachers who are working with affiliated colleges in historical research methodology and research projects. The Department has to its credit 200 published research papers and 25 books till date. It is infra-structurally sound with its own library and modern teaching equipment. The future plans of this Department are to start Post Graduate Diploma courses in Archaeology, Musicology and Archives. Plans of established its own Museum is in the advance stages and the department already has a small Museum.
